Please go to the Tigblog and you'll find that some people are putting their own comments - even 14-15 comments just to project their entries as popular. The word popular itself suggests that the entries which were liked by many people and which received many comments from other people should come there.
I wish we could get rid of these publicity stunts of some people. Some genuine entries suffer because of such things. I hope our Takingitglobal team would do something about it.

I agree... similarly, I just submitted a "bug report" regarding how the new blog entries are listed on the home page. Some folks are posting their blogs with future dates/times so that they stay there for a long time and stay at the top of the list. And, I think there used to be code that made it so that each person could only have one blog (their most recent) highlighted on the front page.
Call me crazy, but I'm a big fan of giving everyone a fair chance to have their writing/ideas profiled.
