Hey all,
My names Matt Trotter and im part of the worlds first entirely youth run and youth driven International Aid and Development organisation. The Oaktree Foundation. I've got an exciting proposal for you!
The Oaktree Foundation aims to Empower developing communities, through education in a sustainable way. We work with poor communities in South Africa, The Philippines, Ghana and other developing countries around the world so that they can break the cycle of poverty and live out there dreams.
The One thing that sets the Oaktree Foundation apart from every other aid and development organisation is that it is completely run by persons under the age of 25! We take guidance and support from more experienced members of the aid and business community, but everything from Research and Project development right through to legal and corporate relations are run by young people!
The Oaktree foundation was founded in 2003 by the 2004 young Australian of the year, Hugh Evans. In the past two years the Oaktree has grown to have over 3000 volunteers and has branches in Australia, the US, Britain and South Africa. Our head office is in Victoria, Australia and have well set up branches in most Australian states.
Over these past two years we have consolidated our position and structures in Australia and now are ready to branch out into the world. If you are REALLY passionate about this goal I would ask you to join us. If you believe you or someone you know has the passion, commitment and ability to start the Oaktree Foundation in your State/Country, you have the opportunity to get involved.
This is not for everyone. To take this on board will be a lot of work and you will have to be committed for the long term. If you want to take up the challenge...

Hey Matt - that is great. I have heard of the Oak Tree foundation before this and have been interested...
If no-one has snatched up the opportunity to start up Oak Tree in New Zealand in about 18 months' time, let me know... I sort of have Uni in the way, so I can't commit to anything major at the moment... but I would like to keep posted.

Youth for youths, that's great!

Hey Matt,
THat is is indeed a good project you are doing and especially that the youths should not sit down and do nothing when they can do something great. Poverty can be eradicated by a committed youth.
A pity that am now turning 25 and out of contention, but I think I would do something on it in my own capacity. I am actually starting a Children Media Group in Chikuni Zambia. This is a project that aims at empowering the youth/children to discuss issues that concern them and to deliver positive results. This shall mainly be done initially by producing radio programmes. We have so far produced 7 programmes. We are in a process of writing a proposal to fund training and technical equipment for the group. We are calling the group KASUUMBWA - an ant hill. An anthill is so beautiful because the little ants/termites work together to make one whole thing. Children have that capacity to make the world a beautiful place.
Please do keep me posted and I shall surely be visiting your site for more information.
Someone told me tthat poverty can mean two things: the lack of basic needs or the laziness to utilise the basic needs. Which one of it is you?

Thats great that your interested in getting involved. You shouldnt feel limited by university commitments if you can manage your time well. The Oaktree's current Director and Cheif Operations officer are both full time law students at university.
Thats not to say it wouldn't take a lot of your time. But it's possible if your are v-commited and can manage your time well.

Heeeey Guys
You know I love to have my 2 words,well as someone who has only 'just' became involved in Oaktree... It is great! Being a young person in Australia, I was fairly ignorant to the going ons past my own shore, and Oaktree is one of the main things that has helped me to do so!
Get in to it!

Brother Matt,
I am an Indonesian. Well, you know...Indonesia is a country where the MNCs collaborate well with the corrupted government. I don't know why the world knows (or care) only little about this "MNC issues" in our country (usually, related to the terrorism issues).
I will share some case:
Freeport-McMoran was a weak enterprise since it found minerals in Indonesia. Now, Freeport is one of the biggest MNC in the world. The contract was (and is) not fair. The people got nothing and Freeport took all. If you come to the complex, you will see a contrast: big houses of the foreigners and a mini-unhealthy houses (if you can call it house) of the locals.
Newmont Minahasa Raya is a corporation that mines gold. In the mining projects, they use mercury unproperly. As the result, the environment was (and is) affected. Hundred babies killed, many people suffered body-disfunction, and more disasters. And you know, the government is protecting the MNC!
I, and of course my social justice activist network, will be thankful if we could fight together with your Oaktree foundation.

I'd actually like to talk to you about your media project in Zambia. I'm a public relations consultant and also a singer/songwriter, and I'm coming over to do volunteer work in Africa next year.
