hey
well i dont think that the media realy control us but people usually belive what they see on tv as if it was FACTS , they think that what runs in news is nothing but truth so people begin to think in a certine way usualy the same way the news was brought to them ...
you know that each story has two sides so if you always hear the story from one side you are going to look to it
as it was the truth altough it might not betrue ,
and no we shouldntbelive all what we see in tv .

Natural disaster, where is the priority

Wasup guyz,
I do support the urgement that we should not believe what we sometimes hear or see, well at times you have to believe based on your experience. From my experience with natural disaster, and how disastrous these have been to the world at alarge I do believe. For example, few weeks back, the world witnessed the calamity typhoon Katrina caused on the people in some parts of where people's houses were demolished and others lost their lives, it was the worst experience any country can ever go, sorry for the experience. This occurance raised a lot of concern, urgent responses and support from organisation and other countries world wide, because it was a great concern, well, I sat down and reflected, what other countries in the world are going through and asked my self natural disaster where is the priority??? For example our freinds in Niger are going through a similiar natural disater where famine is claiming 1000 and 1000 of people's lives young ones, youths and the women especially, but we have less to do,in western part of Congo people are dying in war camps, hospitals exisit in names, but with no medicine, people in this part of the country have never had a chance of looking at a car, another case in a point is nothern Uganda, where more than 100 people die every week mainly children and women due to poor sanitation and famine, all these disasters have not been handled like it was in America, as a result these occurances have been kept away from the wider public and people have continued to suffer, In reference to the disaster that occured in America, if it had happened in one country in Africa do you think Africans would recieve such response? Is there any difference between an American and an African, if there is or not where is the priority,Youth we need to reflect and take action other wise.. Natural disaster where is the priority?

well in some way media controlls us, just that we don't realise it. it makes films etc. so, that they looks so real we get an impression that it's normal and then we start acting the way it shows us, wants us to act in this world ... u can read about it in Maria Furst's interpretation of Platon's methaphor about cave. u can also read about it at my TIGblogs. i just wrote blog, explpaoning his interpretation ... (if u are interested i can translate it for u ... check it out )

My contribution to this vital question goes simply like this:
yes media control the lives of the less fortunate people and amongst the less knowledgeable and informed people.
huge investments are being injected on purpose and with clear intention to what is called issues managment . they place the issues they want on the top of th list and force us to get exposed to it .
who they ? the media owners .
why ? simply because very well connected to international big private businesses owners .
now the question is not if media in its current form has a negative impact on our lives or not, the question is who do we deal with this poisoness impact .
i am calling it posioness coz it is affecting our souls and minds in a very negative way .
so the answer is so hard to be found . basicly we need to reflect , it is not enough that we stay away from media and stop looking at . WE need to be productive . that is why independant short movies and documentaries are promissing tools for the comming years specially with the development of the internet day after day ( yahh i know lots of ppl are still less fortunate with this regard too , but in a way this help )
be optimistic, never take the back seat . create and dessiminate your creations. AND tell ppl this very simple thing .. do not take news for granted .

I have some Public Relations in my background- I took some courses towards a certificate in it, but don't like it enough to follow it as a career. I found that it was all about image- which was really quite superfical to me. It was also all about control- whomever could get their message out the quickest, and clearest offten was able to control the media, whether it was lies or not. And this is what usually managed to make its way through the filters and eventually is known as 'the truth.' So in part, although the media is largely controlled by massive companies, it's also controlled by the PR and marketing strategists behind our favourite products.
For the public- if something is repeated often enough ie: 'John Doe is a right-wing racist,' we will begin to believe it as truth. So in part the fact that the public believes what's in the media, is our own fault for not taking care to do the proper research and find out what John Doe is about.
As to the question of belief: whether we should or not, always keep in mind that there is always more than one side to every story, and really we only get to hear the one that shouts its message the loudest.
