Books for the children

I have just began a project to supply books to school pupils. As a student leader at the university ,I know what it means to go through thick and thin to achieve your academic goals.Anybody is welcome to support the project through the donation of books especially- but money too is welcome.
The best we can give the future is quality education to the future leaders.
Impossibility is not in the dictionary of this Project.
What do you think of the initiative?

Books for children..

Hello there..
It sounds like a genuine and possible project indeed, however such initiatives we must try and add value to them...what do i mean?? Well its simple- its called sustainability. The idea is great but it will need to survive...and survival depends on the community, it would be therefore wise to invite participation from your community/ target group in this way they will feel part of the project-before it even starts.
Donations and handouts may come easy and people(all humans) tend to take things forgranted...but what happens when all these are gone??
All i'm saying is create an environment whereby these books will be appreciated and respected. it would be a waste to create something that good and only to let it fade away.

hello there!
I totally agree with ruth25, you need to make them do things with that books not to distribute them as another "possesion" to be taken a put away.
I would suggest some content based sustainability project, meaning you distribute them these books and make them use th information insode those books to do something. Say for example, you distribute them a biology book and ask give them some kind of questions to which tehy should answer and respondants get prices! I mean just motivate them one way or another and the best to do that in schools is to offer them material incentives Any competition, school project or anything requiring knowledge of info from the books would be fine!

Hey there. I think this is an amazing idea. But I need more information. Where are the books going? Who will be collecting them, is there a drop off point?
Let me know.

Hello Sarah
March 6, 2006 - 04:26 AM
|
|
Sarah,
I am the initiator of "Books For The Children".
I actually wanted to assemble books from local and international donors to furnish the basic school in my village.
The suggestions made at the thread domain are shaping this vision.
I am presently rallying all the 10 students from my village ,who are here in my university to share in the vsion and support accordingly.
I have motivated some prominent student leaders here to get registered at TIG and share in the vision. They are registered and i hope to make them sign up to the project by the 12th of this March.
As SRC Vice Secretary of my university working on my project, coupled with the loss of my father last semester really militated against the progress of the vision.
There is an empty office to be used as the library for the books in the village but it may be advisable to form reading clubs and units within the school with some selected teachers as supervisors/monitors so that the pupils can be questioned after reading the books given them and the winner awarded.
The discussion is still open but the books are definitely important.
I may even decide to link up any donor directly with the school authorities and the traditional ruler.
Thanks for reading this lengthy piece and may i hear from you.
Selorm,Ghana.
