Traded Two Sons For A Dog

I read about a frontier preacher who decided he wanted to keep a stray dog
that his two sons got attached to.
The dog was jet black except for three distinctive white hairs on its tail.
One day the preacher saw an ad in their local newspaper about a lost dog
which fit the description of the dog they found right down to the three
white hairs on the tail. Enlisting the help of his sons, the preacher pulled
out the three white hairs.
The owner, however, heard that the preacher had a dog that might be his.
When he came looking for the dog who obviously recognized him, he was
certain the dog was his but not being able to find the three white hairs, he
left without the dog.
Later the preacher admitted, "I kept the dog but I lost my boys." The names
of his two sons? Frank and Jesse James!

That is not a very good thing to do as the man could have been lonely without his dog. I very much dislike this sort of behaviour... sob sob

I don't think people know who Frank and Jessie James are... actually, I don't, but I am guessing they are some famous people who did things right?
Dunno.
Please enlighten.

Well, some sense is seen here too. But am still in the woods. A more detailed explanation will do.

Actually, since I was raised a Southerner, I've heard plenty of stories about Frank and Jesse James. They actually rode in a partisan band and fought in the Civil War, so while actual troops were given amnesty, they remained "outlaws" and would actually have to face charges of treason if they were ever caught. During that time, the south was actually occupied territory, so corrupted businessmen from the north (mostly the railroad, bankers, and salespeople) know as "carpetbaggers" because of the large bags they had made out of carpet would take advantage of the situation.
In a sense, Jesse James is like the southern version of Robin Hood, and so much of his life is actually a mystery (every now and then people dig up dead bodies to try and test if they are REALLY his remains). But, hey, everyone likes a good story!
