MDGs vs ICTs

Much talk on MDGs has been through the latest ICTs, internet in particular. The developed say we have to lobby our governments to live to their promises. This information is privileged in that only those that have access to the internet can be able to share the thoughts of the developed world. How much have we utilised the community media to sensitse people on MDGs? Should such discussion only be on the internet? What happens to the people in rural Zambia where there is no internet facility? It is time the media took to the grassroots to explain in detail what the MDGs are and what role they can play in achieving them.
local voices are needed for local attainment of the MDGs. What do you think?

Hi Matongo,
thank you so much for this inspiring post! I absolutely agree with you: In order to reach to rural youth, we cannot rely only on the internet. We have to utilize other media as well, especially the radio which is still the most popular form of information distribution in rural areas. And yes, mobilization for the MDGs must come from the grassroots. Information should be localized and adjusted to local circumstances (without changing the main message though).
I had a look at your profile and saw that you are a broadcast journalist - so I invite you to take the MDGs local and get the word about them out to young people in rural Zambia! Let me know if you need any kind of help, I would definately support such an iniative!
Franziska

Danke Franziska. I am delighted to have a mesaage and support from you. At the moment am working on producing programmes to raise awareness on the hunger and povery levels in my area. I shall be getting testimonies from affected people and those that are supposed to be working towards poverty alleviation. With the Children's programmes am cordinating, we hope that more children will have an urge to be educated. I am taking the MDGs local by getting testimonies and using opinion leaders to talk on MDGs and the state of them in my district. Let me drop an email to you for further discussions.
