Hmmm... most nomadic communities are highly dependent on livestock. Try searching on related terms like livestock, livelihoods, and poverty. There are also a lot of articles on education in nomadic communities.
A couple of articles I turned up included:
* http://www.new-agri.co.uk/03-1/focuson/focuson3.html
* http://www.ifad.org/lrkm/region/pi/ICIMOD/cn_nakchu.htm
* http://www.pitt.edu/~ginie/somalia/pdf/nomaded.pdf
In Kenya, you might also want to contact the International Institute for Rural Reconstruction. They've done some great projects on traditional veterinary medicine with nomadic groups in East Africa (contact details on http://www.iirr.org/Africa/rgnlcenterafrica.htm).
Cheers,
Terri
