TYN Summer Symposium 1 - 3 July 2005
The THIMUN Youth Network (TYN) is holding a Summer Symposium during the weekend preceding the TYA conference in July. This Symposium will consist of workshops on two topics: International NGO Politics, and Organising Model United Nations Conferences in your school or community. The different workshops are explained below.
Participation will be open to anyone between the ages of 16 and 25, and interested people will have to apply through a special application form.
General Information
The symposium will be devided into 2 main groups according to the topics mentioned below. Additionally, there will be a number of presentations and workshops on various topics that will be open to all participants. A welcome reception/dinner will be provided to all participants on the first day, as well as lunch on the Saturday and Sunday. There will be an application procedure for people wishing to participate. The fee for the symposium will be € 50,- per participant, or € 35,- if you are participating in the 6th TYA Conference. International NGO Politics
The workshops on International NGO Politics are primarily meant for young people that wish to attend international (UN) conferences, either in a TYN delegation, or as a delegate for your own NGO or organisation. The workshops will teach skills needed for effective policy development and consensus building, as well as lobbying skills and general knowledge needed to be an effective delegate at these conferences. The workshops will also give inside knowledge on the backstage politics at international conferences, and the roles that NGOs play.
Organizing MUN Conferences
Although there are numerous Model United Nations (MUN) conferences around the world in schools and communities, there are many young people who still do not have access to such an experience. These workshops will be directed at participants who wish to take action and start such programs in their communities and schools. Preference will be given to participants from areas that with no MUN conferences in the region.
