Does love exist?

I have a theory. i don't believe in the existance of love between people, though i believe that the existance of love itself is possible. weird i know but i simply believe that the human nature is really bad and capable of being evil to allow such pure thing like love to exist. It is because that we humanbeings are evil, greedy, selfish and utterly evil that we cannot allow love to grow among us. In my opinion all the relationships that we tend to catogerise as "love" are other things in diguise. They may be familiarity, need, lust, interest or whatever but i dare anybody to prove that he can love and be loved in return so innocently and just for the sake of love. wouldanybody take the challenge???????!!!!!!!!!

what a pessimistic hobbesian scenario! well, i dont believe in hollywood endings either, but what about the love between a mother and a child (isn't that the ultimate form of innocent, unconditional love?), but also the love between sisters and brothers, the love you feel for your family, your friends, or even the abstract love for humanity...
i think you shound just take a good look at the takingITglobal community, and you will find that love, good nature and a belief in a common humanity lies behind the commitment and initiative for many of these young people. if we stop believing in this, no commitment for peace, justice and human rights would be possible!

I dunn know about ur previous (probably) bad experience, but i must say there are two fires burning at same time in each of us.
One fire represents all thats "bad"
Second represents all of good..
Both cannot burn at same time. But both can be blown onto, thus made stronger in order to take over the body. Therefore we must be aware which one of the two we are "blowing" onto. Means what we support and what we make other people to do..
Loved the words? I loved to think about it night after night. Have a nice day.

Discovery Channel had a documentary that was trying to prove your point and answer your question on the existence of love. Quite interesting conclusion. Should I spoil the ending for you? (Maybe you want to catch it on DVD or something...?)

Oh please spoil the ending i'm eager to find out. And katulus believe me i do not have any experience of that sort not good and definitely not bad. i just observe things around me and try to reach conclusions or at least understand what is goin on around me. Nicea, the love between a mother and her son is not love it is instinct and this is exactly what i meant when i said that we tend to confuse things and call them love. what actually is between us members of the tig is mutual respect and understanding but love/ i do not think so. you are obtimistic and belive in the good nature of man i like that though i do not agree with it. I like to see that someone still have the capacity to hope and dream. it is nice, i think.
P.S. I do not believe in hollywood endings too, so trivial for my brain.

Dalmaa, maybe you can tell us what is your definition of love so as not to confuse it with other things like you say.
Best wishes.

how can i define something that does not exist? it would be a rather hard task do not you think? if anyone who believe in love has a difinition of it why doesn't he/she share it with us?

Wow Dalmaa that’s a clever answer.
It’s kind of difficult to define love because there are many varieties of love and because love means different things to different people. Some people love their parents (or one of them) very much (and this is not instinct because some other people hate their parents) so I think this relationship is a kind of love in which 2 people love each for what they are.
You say when a mother loves her child this is instinct and not love. Well I think all mothers do not love their kids in an equal way (even if they don’t show or say it) so there must be something else that makes the mother loves one kid more than the others.
What about romantic love, don’t you think that it’s possible that a couple love each other so much that they can’t imagine their lives without each other? And you, would you rather marry a man who loves you or another who you just find appropriate or suitable? Who is capable of making you happier?
When someone like Marla Ruzicka (may God bless her soul), an American who travels to Baghdad just to help the victims of the war and then die doing this, isn’t this some kind of love to humanity?
Love can’t be explained, it’s like trying to describe thirst to someone who’s never been thirsty.

it is indeed a clever answer didn't you know that i'm a clever girl?!!!!!!! just kidding. Anyway MAN COME ON BE REALISTIC. do you think that animals can feel love tough its abstract nature that prevent you from defining it? animals too have a mother and child relationship and maybe it is more powerful than the kind of relations that we have among us humans. and though it's been hard for me to argue with such relationships like mother and child but i have to argue and say that from my point of view i can never believe that two people can love each other for no reason whatsoever it is beyond me to understand it. maybe i'm slow or something i wouldn't know. however i believe that what this woman have done she did it because of faith and because she had a certain belief coz i too would go to the end of the universe to help someone not because of love but because i want to help coz i belive in that and i also believe that it is gonna make me a better person. Do I make any sense here? i do not think so. well i guess it is just the way i'm.

Hey dalmaa u never told us why u feel that way.
Love definately exists in all forms however its different from one to another and people show it in different ways.
There is love between members of the family, friends, lovers ...etc.
Even if what u see around u doesnt necessary mean thats how it goes around the world. Don't u love yr friends? family? neighbors?
well i think im just repeating what others have said.
To me Love is being to like the person despite his flaws, to enjoy his company, care for him, worry about him, miss him if u dont see him and cherish every moment with him.
The whole point is to choose people who are worth your trust and love then and only then you will have a great life and great people worth living for.

romaica apparently you are a very ROMANTIC girl and i like that i like to think that three are still people who still have faith in love and believe in its existanse. It gives me hope. the reason why i feel that way is because i observe things around me i depict the changes that have been happening in the world i have eyes and i have brain. let me tell you that one of our famous egyptian writer whose name is Ezzat Alsa'adany declared officially the death of love though he himself used to write about how great love is. it is just an idea and opinion that i have and not necessary that anybody would agree with me, Right?

Well Dalmaa, im romantic but i dont like to show it cuz i've had tough experiences with people who werent worth my love & trust so i had to toughen up & be more realistic. U know what (i think ) my poetry shows the romance left in me,but in real life im very practical & realistic. Guess how i feel has to do with my Libra sign the scales keep moving up & down!
Not everyone is capable of love so one has gotta be proud that he can still feel love to others.

FINALLY! somebody agrees with me. thank you mnm and welcome in our large family of TIG. You are going to have fun i promise. Anyway romaica there is nothing wrong in believing in love though if you give it much thought maybe, and i'm only saying maybe, You'll have second thoughts you say that you have been hurt and i'm really sorry for that see if we are capable of using our brains proberly no one will get hurt and then maybe love can exists but according to my opinion it is possible only then. On second thought maybe not coz who knows what would happen if we were able to use all our capacities maybe we would be worse or maybe the worst. As i said who knows and who can tell.

This is an interesting point that I've never really considered before, although I think I agree. I've never much believed in true love, but I have never thought so deeply about the topic. Man, I think I really do agree very much with you. Thanks for the new perspective.

love.that what people in the world is lack of now.
the people are so selfcentered, they only hope of own joy.
love between a couple, that's true love.
eventually, the concept of love between woman and man is diffent.Woman want love, then they are willing to sacrifice themselves in every circumstance.Man is the opposite, they disire sex than love.this is one of the way many innocent teenagers girls are cheated...
