Education Without Self-directed Learning is Brain-washing!!

No matter how intellectually gifted you are or what your impressive academic credential shows, if you have not ventured to learn and study/explore things at a deeper level on your own, you are going to be closed-minded.
There are many nobel-laureates who are blocked in certain fundamental areas...had they looked into their own belief-systems there work would be of different quality. The academia, reasearch, and media is largely controlled by money-interests/special-interests. And our education has become much about indoctrination and meeting artificial standars than free-thinking and self-directed learning. We are indoctrinated to prepare for good/well paying jobs than allow our love/passion to be our work. It is very nteresting that all our choiced are ruled by money, but we never know what money is or how it comes to circulation as compound interest bearing debt or loans!
I am confident that free communication (across belief systems) on the web will change this situation for better for all very soon.
Cheers

It is the journey, not the destination

I believe you are so right, that if we don't try to learn ourself, and believe everything a teacher says as truth we are truly being brainwashed. That is why topics that we are allowed to choose and research are the best way of seeing how good a student we are. Not if we followed a certain procedure or formula to get the answer. It doesn't matter take what path we take, but journey is what is important.

Hey Mita,
tell us more about those Nobel Laureates and their subject areas. What examples are you thinking of? From what you've said I can't think who you might mean...
