[Poll] Girl Power!
March 15, 2005 - 09:02 AM

as few women fight for gender equality, all the rest are busy fighting themselves. I site a case in my class where in our project group, we unanimously decided to choose the only lady we had as our leader, a position she srongly rejected. Women in my country also beleive that science subjects are difficult and they end up excelling in arts as men rule the lucrative science industry. Its time that women changed thei attitudes if they were to fight for opportunities with men at the same grounds.

the main problem lies in woman, they themselves don't want to fight for a place in society.. it is simply a problem of mentality which they have grown up, with families plant in them the feeling that they are beneath men so they should be satesfied with being second place.

This is my opinion of what goes on in the United States. No doubt that women have been fighting for equal rights for a while. And still to this day, they don't receive equal pay for equal work. I haven't a clue why and yes it is a problem. But I think the core of this problem is the cause of the actions by many women. Many exploit themselves. They have formed this ideology that if they show off their bodies and look "Hot" to these men, then they will get what they want which they feel is equality. In factuality it is not. It’s more like favors. They let men drool over their bodies, they flirt, exploit themselves and in return they get a favor which in teh end still isn't a fair trade. And who hurts from this? Women! It is harder for a not so pretty woman to get a job even though she possesses better training and requirements then another women which I guess looks better. Now there is this competition of who can be the thinnest , I am assuming better hair, makeup, smaller tighter clothes and of that sort. Also, women in thsi country isn’t takin seriously. It is only when women realize this and do something about this is when there will be a change. A lot are happy with it, many aren't. But don't they realize that they still, in teh end, after all they do, they are not received equal opportunity?! It is up to the women. We as women by nature are created with better skills then men. Bt of we lower our selves, then this world will be ran by men only, and there needs to be a balance of both for everything to work properly. But again, this is my opinion.

There are many women fighting for woman's rights but their are some spreading hidden messages like "please men" and stuff like that. Usually celebs like Britney Spears (to Britney Spears fans, don't kill me!) influance many young girls to dress skimy or wear make-up, etc. The hidden messages keeps spreading on and on not only by celebs but also in media, government, education, etc. If you notice many female child star were just waiting until they are legal to be "hot" and "sexy".

Affirmative Action
March 29, 2005 - 06:55 AM

Affirmative action should not be supported. All those who support it just confirm their beleif that women can do nothing without aid from men and organizations.

Girl Power!

I really beilive that women and gals have the power to influence what they do and how they do it.....if u show men you are the kind to be a doll and played with then u cant blame them when they take u on with your offer.
sometimea we ladies are our own enemies we bit** sorry for the word....then when we discover we are not getting what we want we turn and whine that men are infulencing our circumstances.

African women have in the recent past rose above their circumstances to be what they want to be in their world....I a world of disciminations against the women folk....we need to really be assertive to get on the top!
This can only be achieved if women take charge of their lives......their destines and all. Life's what you make it to be....If life throws you lemons make lemonade!!!!

Wake up gals and do your thing.....

I beg to differ. I want to fight for my place in society!

I agree families and environment often teach us we are beneath men, but I think inside we know we are equal.

Stand up women let's fight.

Not all women want to be play objects for men. That's what we are fighting about. I think American TV, media and superstars give a false impression. Yes some women do follow that path, but I think many women reject it.

hi there,
i don't agree with u,fairer women may be getting jobs but what kind of jobs. They don't get bigger posts. And why are there no women presidents in America.Do u think Mrs.Clinton will ever become a president(she has got all the qualities). And hello, every women is beautiful in their own way and if they have the skills they will be recruited. And i think guys will agree to this.
u said, "women have been fighting for equal rights for a while. And still to this day, they don't receive equal pay for equal work."But who are they lending their voice to,'THE MEN'.I think women are happy if their men keeps them happy. So it's the responsibility of the men to give respect for women. To be honest most men don't like to be dominated by women. That's the only reason why still the women is struggling to get equal rights.
Am i wrong ,then prove me wrong.

Let me just try flipping things around a little... why should anyone - men included - be content with a system which requires them to sacrifice their family lives for their careers? When we talk about fighting for professional positions and power, implied in that is an idea that people must put in long hours and go to extraordinary lengths to get ahead.

In many sytems and a wide variety of cultures, women are either not allowed to sacrifice family or choose not to in order to "get ahead" in the current system. Personally, I think that kind of cut-throat competitive system is dysfunctional.

The question is, how do you shift the system (and the "masculine" competitive values that underlie it) in order to enable more people to excel and find balance in many spheres of their life - personally, professionally, spiritually, etc?

- Terri

A funny thing about women tending to excel at the arts and language arts in schools while men are guided towards the concrete sciences. It has been scientifically proven that men and women are treated differently by professors in those classes. Teachers will positively reinforce men in mathematics and science and women in art and language arts. In addition to this research it has been examined that boys and girls are treated differently regardless of class because school is a small examination of what "society wants".

This website has some interesting information on gender bias. The changes need to be made on a higher level- women are equal achievers in every academic sense but ancient and outdated issues are preventing women from having a fair playing ground.

I think if you earn your own money and buy your own stuff (makeup, clothes, cars, dildos, etc ) you can have all the independence you need.

Only people who're insecure about themselves want recoginition for posessing qualities which is basically the same quality or talent every other human being has.

The hardworking women I know are all doing pretty well for themselves. And some of them is only a high school graduate.

It just the lazy literate one who talk and write about it all the time.

Yes, yes we all know how good women are and how talented they are, etc, etc...

Just get going and set up your own business. Innovate, invent and you will make plenty of money.

As a businessman I will happily do business with you as long we can get mutual benifit. I never inquire if you have boobs or not.

Also dont complain about women who wish to be used and allow themselves to be used. If they dont have a problem then neither do I. Why should you?

Cheers,
Pritam
