Title IX

Would like to get thoughts On Title IX in College sports? I believe that it has done it's job in increasing the sheer number of women's sports, but is in turn killing many low number participent men's sports (wrestling, golf, etc.) Should Title IX be altered, put on hold, or completely done away with?

Title IX

However the fault i do find is that colleges are eliminating mens sports programs because it doesnt fit into the plan. Just because the are more athletes that happen to be Males doesn't mean that they shouldn't get a chance to play them in college. I play lacrosse, and it is a sport that has had its growth held back due to Title IX. I really hope that some restrictions can be put on this to allow some of these sports to grow.

I think title 9 is a bad piece of political crap.
sure women's rights groups had good intentions, but it done more bad than good.
The NCAA will never admit this but even college sports about making money. Thats why the sports that generate the most in ticket sales get the most money to give out scholarships (football, baseball, and basketball).
This is in no way mean to bash on womens abilities as athletes, but womens sports are not as entertaining as men's. There is no argument about it. Granted there may be exceptions to the previous statement, but I think you understand my point.
I still believe that women should are entitled to participate in collegiate sports and they shouldn't be discriminated against in the athletics world. If there is a genuinely large enough amount of interest in developing a sport for women to participate in then they should be allowed. Title 9 is just not the way to go about it.

i took at look at the links you provided and found it pretty disheartening that the "opposition's" view was so steeped in anti-feminism. This radio host and commentator is not a reliable source to offer criticisms of certain facets of Title IX. It;s plainly obvious he's got a bone to pick with feminists. Check out the other topics of past columns provided on the same page:
"Popular Women's Studies 101 Textbook: Lies, Damned Lies, and Statistics"
"California Men's College Sports Under Assault from NOW"
"Boys: The new underclass in American schools"
Clearly, this commentator has set up an "us vs. them" dynamic with feminists which is completely unproductive. The whole point of Title IX applied to college sport is to even the playing field and redistribute funds, scholarships, etc. to allow more women to benefit from the advanatages and privileges of playing sport in college/university. To find fault with that, is really a very sad thing.
