Summer University "Gene Technology- supported or damned?

International Evenings:
To bring students together WISE organize international evenings. Participants bring different national meals and you have the chance to try them. The next international evening is planned in spring next year.
Courses:
WISE organize courses can be about cultural issues, knowledge transfer or other topics of interest. We will invite participants for a two-week course and organize accommodation, the contents of it and much more.
The event itself is free of charge; we only ask them for a small fee.
Planned courses:
WISE Hamburg, Germany is planning the Summer University "Gene Technology- supported or damned?" and it will take place from May 14th to 28th 2005 in Hamburg.
We will invite up to 25 students from all over the world. We will begin by introducing you to the basics in gene technology as we do not expect experts for our summer university. It is enough if you are interested in the topic and followed the discussions about the chances and risks in the media. Later the main focus will be on the green gene technology and the stem-cell research. There will be lectures and excursion and you will be ask to give short presentations about the situation in your country. Later on there will be a lot of time in workshops to create statements in discussions. Apart from the academic program there will be various cultural and social activities.
Our aim is to make you know our city, the German culture and of course also the cultures of the other participants' countries. To achieve this there will be trips within Hamburg as well as international evenings where you have the chance to get to know about different cultures.
You are welcome to apply for this event from November 15th to January 31th.
Later applications will be placed on a waiting list.
The travel expenses must be paid by the participants. Food, accommodation, social and cultural activities are free of charge. We plan to rent a house for all of us and most of the time all participants can stay together. You are welcome to apply for this event!
