Promotion of Youth-Led Enterprises in Off-Grid Renewable Energy
Aug 24, 2001

Something interesting to keep an eye on, especially for those of you in Costa Rica....

Education Development Center, Inc. in Newton, MA is conducting a search for a manager for a new Global Environment Facility funded project, Promotion of Youth-Led Enterprises in Off-Grid Renewable Energy. Briefly, this initiative will:

· Encourage the switch from fossil fuel energy to renewable energy sources, and help reach poor rural communities badly in need of electricity to power homes, schools, health centers and other infrastructure;

· Help youth, the emerging workforce in developing countries, maximize their natural energies and innovation, and widen their opportunities for environmentally sustainable work;

· Identify and address the barriers to commercial and near-commercial development and delivery of renewable energy services and tap the potential of youth groups in mobilizing financing and labor for renewable energy projects; and

· Develop youth led enterprises that will supply renewable energy to their communities, and help reduce the global dependence on fossil fuels.

If you are looking for further information on the project, I'd suggest contacting:
