I guess not... It's sad that no one has an opinion because it's such an important issue
(I think we need to stop using big old trees for toilet paper and we need to recycle more, but everyone know that...)

There is a new initiative starting later this year that claims to be solutions oriented. They want to present speakers at various US locations:

Not many details. We'll have to see if it lives up to the hype. ;-)

Horse Logging

Hello, Hello.
I'm new to the forum, browsing around and I came across your discussion. I am pleased to note that there are people, organizations and that who are making an effort to harvest lumber without dammaging the land. A friend of mine is working in Haliburton, Ontario, Canada as a Horse Logger. Low impact, selective, low productivity but less waste.
Cool eh?

Very Interesting

It is fascinating to hear how sometimes the "low-tech" can make a bigger impact. This is especially true when larger production is not necessary.
Some of the fancy stationers (e.g., Crane) use cotton rag that is refuse from blue jeans, etc. There is even Amatruda Paper (founded in 1380) that makes cotton paper from refuse of other cotton consuming industries. Recycled material be high-end and good quality.
