Merit The Key To Awards!!!!

MY COUNTRY HAS RECENTLY APPOINTED MINISTER JOICE MUJURU as the new second Vice President.I too, like most people in the country cogratulate and support this elevation of Cde Mujuru.I do so not because she is a woman, but because she has an impressive C.V.She has been involved in our country's politics since the liberation struggle. She is qualified for that position.
What i do not support is elevation of women into positions of power and decision making so as to maintain gender balance and make some people happy, disregarding whether those people are qualified or not!I appreciate that the girl child has to have some advantages over the boy child owing to the discriminations by our forefathers! But those advantages should not be eternal. In ZIM.,girls require less entry points to both A'Levels and university than boys.I such previledges should end there and not spill over into positions of authority. We are having elections this year and some constituancies have been reserved for women candidates!!!!This ,i think, taking gender balance too far. They should battle it out with men and let the people decide!!!Education.Hardwork.Determination,will get one where one wishes to go!!!!

Alas, I lived to see men being discriminated...
Now, seriously, truly, you're right to feel 'conquered'
by women's hand but isn't it so in all other countries...
I mean the sometimes-annoying cases of unqualified women/men from different races or phisical condition being hired just because of their shottage in certain insitutions...Then again, often another view is needed and so such people are getting their right role and become precious!Of course, after presenting different ones in an institution, they immediately get very popular. So, don't take it that close to your heart, my friend, because after some time similar 'fashion' will undoubtedly pass away...people will start seeing THINGS!

huhu, friend,I can understand your angry, but please calm down and just do what your heart tells you to do.
current situation will exist in a certain period.Actually to reserve an position only for women condidates is also a sort of discrimination. It reaches an gender balance only until we do not mention gender discrimination any more. We don't even ask for the candidats' gender when choosing a person for a position. And before we reaches this perfect condition we still have to keep ourselves conscious to make a wise decision and patient to see progress little by little.

I THINK SELECTING INDIVIDUALS FOR POSTS/POSITIONS ACCORDING TO GENDER SO AS "BALANCE" THINGS IS REALLY NOT HELPING THE FIGHT AGAINST GENDER DISCRIMINATION, THAT PERSON MIGHT BECOME A SUBJECT OF DISCRIMINATION AS TO HOW S/HE ACTUALLY GOT THAT POSITION.ALLOW ALL C.V'S AND LET THE BEST QUALIFIED PERSON GET THAT POSITION.

They do call it affirmative action. I think it is veryu wrong to lower standards in order to increase access of a particular "disadvantaged" group to certain opportunities. Opportunities should be fought for on a fair ground.

Hmm... in some ways, the education system can be biased toward males. I mean, I haven't researched the psychology of the whole gender issue, but females are generally regarded to learn better through discussion, group activities, etc. I don't know about your schools, but at my school, the math and science courses almost always consist of teacher lectures, followed by individual problem-solving. That's why there are so many math/science programs for girls in the United States. I think that these programs are beneficial, but the test score thing is just blatant discrimination.. and that's definitely going too far. Why not encourage girls in high school rather than requiring a lower score for admissions (and undermining their achievements in the process)?
