Compact Fluorescent Bulbs!
December 17, 2004 - 01:52 AM

I just purchased some Compact Fluorescent bulbs and I am truly amazed at the new ones available. The new ones offer a soft white glow similar to an incandescent light. So you still have the advantage of using 1/5 the power and they also provide the same lighting mood. Oh, and they last 10x longer. Also, something not usually mentioned, they don't provide unwanted heat in the summer months.

I think they should ban incandescent lightbulbs. What do you think? I purchased a package of 2 for $8 which is cheap for what you are getting. I also think they should be better promoted, I've already told my friends and family, have you?

If every Canadian switched one buld to CF that would be the equivalent to taking 66,000 vehicles off the road, and save 73$ million in energy costs.

Have you spread the word, how can it better be spread?

I will definitely check this out. I have a problem at home with bulbs burning out frequently so this would be great!

They're really great for most applications. However, I still find them not bright enough for reading or special applications. Still the amount of use would save a lot of energy.

Fluorescent Lighting
December 21, 2004 - 12:26 PM

If every household in the U.S. replaced one light bulb with an ENERGY STAR qualified compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL), it would prevent enough pollution to equal removing one million cars from the road. -From- (http://www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?c=cfls.pr_cfls)

These are great and they are actually better for you eyes than traditional incandescents. Fluorescent light is white, just like sunlight, while incandescents are typically a shade of yellow.

Phasing out incandescents and turning to Fluorescents is a major step for energy conservation and pollution limitation in the world. Commercial and Industrial businesses have been in the Fluorescent game for years. Try finding an incandescent bulb in a grocery or department store? It won't happen. We should change to fluorescents for the environment and if that isn't enough incentive for you, then do it for the economic benefits.
