RE: PROFESSIONAL ADVICE

hello every one.i am a civil engineering student proposing to start a business of my own so as to cushion the effect of the high unemployment rate we are facing in this country. my resources are:an office space(bills footed by my uncle), a pentium IV laptop with the autocad software and a vast experience in autocad software application. but i seem to be having a problem; i do not know how to carry out marketing survey and other marketing strategies so as to get started. I intend venturing into autocad tutorship for Engineers, Architects, Builders e.t.c. autocad is a software used to do design works instead of the traditional T-Square and Set-Squares. pls i need a professional advice from marketing practitionals.

GREAT ! EXCELLENT ! CONGRATULATIONS FROM MY SIDE !

You have good and most noble intents and my supportfor your efforts is firm.

For a start realize the immense power of propaganda. That brings in a good reputation and people that are intersted in your offers.

Cheapest way for that to start happening is of course personal contact with people. But in order to be taken more seriously, you must be having written materials to distribute them among target audience. You already written you have already defined who that is. So if this are the students, go where they are - university and post these leaflets to the walls and boards in the Uni. so people can see and read what it is.

NOTE: You must add clear contact desriptions, maybe a small street map, where you are located. Also, on the under part of leaflet add a "tear - off" segment with phone number or email, in order to be torn off by people interested, that will contact you.

At end i also must stress very high importance of personal credibility. Make sure first people that come to SEE (not use) your services must be treated like real guests, with courtesy and respect .. People talk around and so will anyone of those. Not surprisingly, people are not always keen to insult behind peoples back. Often they will praise good service and polite approach when talking with others about the subject.

I propose we keep this thread open and active.

Ave Futuria

I just want to add that given the nature of your business: profession service, you may need to locate it where there is a profusion of core users of the service. If you were in Nigeria, you will likely locate at Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt or other state capitals where engineering and building contracts are heavy. Most of your target clients live in these places too. Meanwhile, your decision for now must consider your academic need. That is, the location of your University.

More grease to your elbow.
